What is the letter of approval?

Written approval from a Party involved (called the letter of approval) is the authorisation from that country of the participation by the project participant in the proposed project small-scale afforestation or reforestation (SSC A/R) activity:

A written approval constitutes the authorization by a designated national authority (DNA) of specific entity(ies)' participation as project proponents in the specific CDM project activity (EB 16, Annex 6, paragraph 2(c)).

This definition is now contained in the CDM Glossary of Terms (Version 03).

A letter of approval is required from each Party involved in the CDM project activity:

The DOE shall:

  1. Prior to the submission of the validation report to the Executive Board, have received from the project participants written approval of voluntary participation from the designated national authority of each Party involved, including confirmation by the host Party that the proposed small-scale afforestation or reforestation project activity under the CDM assists it in achieving sustainable development (6/CMP.1, Annex, paragraph 15(a)).
