Carbon pools

Carbon pools are defined as follows:

"Carbon pools" are those carbon pools referred to in paragraph 21 of the annex to draft decision 16/CMP.1 and are: above-ground biomass, belowground biomass, litter, dead wood and soil organic carbon (5/CMP.1, Annex, paragraph 1(a)).

When calculating emissions generated by an afforestation or reforestation project (as part of calculating the emission removals attributable to the project):

... project participants may choose not to account for one or more carbon pools if they provide transparent and verifiable information that indicates that the choice will not increase the expected net anthropogenic GHG removals by sinks (CDM Glossary of Terms, Version 03).
